The Magic of Monadnock: Poetry Bridging Continents

Event Details linked here

For five days, Keene State College will host The Magic of Monadnock: Poetry Bridging Continents, an international colloquium that will bring five pastoral poets from the People's Republic of China, members of the Monadnock Pastoral Poets, and other guest speakers to the college. Open to the campus and local community, the colloquium will examine how geography and the word "pastoral" defines and redefines geographical landmarks, like Mt. Monadnock in New Hampshire or Mt. Maoshan in China, as potent, sacred forces for humanity.

The week will be full of poetry, performances, field trips, lectures and discussions that delve into the concepts of what makes a space sacred. These explorations can extend to the playing fields for an athlete, the canvas for a painter, the instrument of a musician, the kitchen for a chef, or the computer of a technologist. All these spaces represent mountains, both real and symbolic, which by transcending makes them sacred to ourselves.
